About Bossa nova
[From wikipedia] Bossa nova (litteraly 'New hump' in the sense 'New wave', Portuguese pronunciation: ˈbɔsɐ ˈnɔvɐ) is a style of samba developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is mainly characterized by a "different beat" that altered the harmonies with the introduction of unconventional chords and an innovative syncopation of traditional samba from a single rhythmic division. The “bossa beat” – the creation of which is sometimes attributed to drummer Wilson Banana – is characteristic of a samba style and not of an autonomous genre. (..) Its first commercial appearance was on the July 1958 LP album of Elisete Cardoso (1920-1990) and on the two singles released in 1958 by João Gilberto (1931-2019).
